Guess What Daddy and the Boys Did This Weekend...

101_1977 Our second Cub Scout camp is coming up this Friday and the annual Space Derby race is on Saturday.  So the boys and Daddy built their "flying machines" this past weekend.

101_1949 The boys started off enthusiastically...101_1981

But it can be a long process...  So Daddy helped out quite a bit...

101_2000 In the end, boy are the cool!

Outside My Window...

101_1972

Outside my window… A muggy, hot summer day.

I am thinking… There's a lot, around home, that I'd like to have help doing today...

I am thankful for… A weekend at home to do all the stuff mentioned above...

From the kitchen… I've been in the mood to cook, but just haven't had the spark to get in the kitchen and do it...

I am wearing… New jeans, fitted-orange-cotton shirt and slippers...

I am creating… an art clothesline for each boy's bedroom.101_1960

I am going…  to work on forgiveness.

I am reading… the most current issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine.

I am hoping… for peace and resolution, with the beginning of another school year getting closer and closer...

I am hearing… a little known song, recorded by Starland Vocal Band, called From Boulder to Birmingham.

Around the house… a complete and utter mess of craft supplies and tools and sawdust.101_1994

One of my favorite things… fresh tomatoes from my garden and sharing them with our puppies.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Knit Night on Thursday and another Cub Scout camp next weekend.

Here is picture thought I am sharing:101_1983

A milestone reached.

The New Big Boy Room

101_1941 Here is it - Will's new bedroom.  I think he really likes it, although it's going to take some time to get used to not having little brother in the room with him.

I've told the boys that while they're out for summer and on the weekends (when school starts up again) they can sleep in each other's bedrooms together if they want.  But on school nights they are to stay in their own rooms.101_1945

I wanted to put the armoir in the corner, but Scott wants it at the foot of the bed for future t.v. viewing ease.

We still have to put up the ceiling fan and find an alarm clock with a IPod port. (Dood inherited my IPod when I got a Touch.)  We need to finish the window sill and Scott's going to paint a space mural for above the bed.

In the mean time, Scotty is sad that his bedroom doesn't have a theme.  So I've agreed to create one.  He wants dinosaurs.  I've ordered a couple throw pillows and I'm looking for a dinosaur lamp.  Daddy's going to paint something like this:Dinoart

It's a T-Rex, which Bee says is his favorite kind of dinosaur, but whimsically painted as to not be so realistic and scary.  Found this one on www.etsy.com at this address:  http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10466736&ref=sr_gallery_1&&ga_search_query=dinosaur+art&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=2&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title and I love it, but sadly all the prints are sold out.  Love all the stuff in this etsy shop!

So, with that, I think we're set in the boy living arrangements for a few years...  I hope...

Pets and Hobbies

101_1889 A summertime event just happened!  The pups got the very first tomato from the garden.  I had promised tootsie-pop and she's been waiting for months.  They were happy puppies!101_1890

I've only done Roma tomatoes in the past and they're small enough just to give them to the pups whole.  This was a big hybrid plant, so we took it inside and washed it and chopped it up.101_1892

And these are for our latest crop of baby butterflies.  Soon as I'm sure they have full bellies, we're going to set them free.  Maybe tonight.101_1893

Seems like it's been all about animals around here the last couple of days.  Our little betta, Azul, is sick too...  He's been hiding and acting sluggish for a couple of weeks before his thick-headed caretaker (that would be me) finally noticed grey spots on him (and only after part of his fin fell off during the last aquarium cleaning.)  Ugh!  So he's on medicine and is getting frequent house cleanings.  I sure hope the little guy is going to be ok. For a fish, he's been surprisingly fun and animated.  I've been very taken by the little guy.101_1913

In knitting news, here is Mr. Greenjeans.  I haven't read ahead in the pattern yet, but I'm dying to start on the cable part...  hoping it's next.  My goal is to have this done to wear to Vail in November.  I think it's a safe goal.  Maybe I'll have it done even sooner.  I made it two sizes smaller than I wore when I started, knowing that I was going to have weight loss surgery.  But this size is the size I'm wearing currently...  so the sooner I finish, the better.  (Amanda, have you ever known anyone take so long to knit a sweater as me?  I'm always blown away at how fast you knit!)101_1914

I haven't gotten very far on the Cub Scout socks...  My goal on them is to just have them done for when scouts resumes at the end of August.101_1916

And finally here's my Rosalie scarf.  It will have to be blocked, obviously.  My goal for this is just to have it completed before fall, when I'll next be able to wear a scarf.  It's so drapey and soft.  I think I'm going to love it.  (Of course, I was given a beautiful, white, hand knit scarf for Christmas last year.  Thank you, Sandy, I love it!  But I couldn't resist making a Twilight-inspired scarf.  I know you understand.)

So that's all that's on-the-needles at my house for now...  you know, unless I find another irresistable pattern out there.

Off to find more coffee.  I hope you have a great Friday!

Fourth of July, 2009

Fourth of July, 2009, originally uploaded by doo010101.

We had a fabulous long weekend over Independence Day at my folks' house in the mountains! Lots of boy activities: fishing, four-wheeling, shooting, boating. The weather was unseasonably cool and wonderful. Having our "Georgia cousin", Devan with us was a real treat. And we always have fun with Guh/Umpa.  Thanks for working so hard to help us have a great time, Mama!

It was just perfect!

Had a Fabulous Fourth!

101_1795

I got a bunch of knitting done.  I was a little sad that I had to stop progress on my sweater until I had internet access.  There was a new cast on method I had to look up on youtube.  But I found it and got it going again...  I was able to work, a little while, on cub scout socks too...  There was a lot of knitting going on while boys were fishing...

Today I'm trying to get unpacked and laundry going and running a couple necessary errands.  More to come later.

It's a Good Little House

101_1666 Scott and I have mixed emotions about our current home.  Living in a small town in BFE doesn't allow one to be too picky when purchasing a home and so three years ago when we moved here, we just chose the house that best fit our needs at that time.  It wasn't a matter of love.

We've toyed with the idea of moving, but we'd have to build our own house, because there just isn't anything here already that we'd like better.  So we sit and wait, here in our little house.  It isn't our style, there are lots of things we don't like about it, but it's a good little house!

One of my favorite summertime dishes

101_1656 No homegrown tomatoes yet, but it was still very tasty.  I love making bruschetta topping and putting it on a hamburger or a chicken breast.  So yummy.  I lost my original recipe, though and the last couple of times I've been way too conservative with the Balsamic Vinegar...  Next time will be perfect!  Also dealt with the usual frustration of living in BFE, when trying to find fresh basil yesterday.  All three grocery stores were out.  Finally found some  plants at the greenhouse and will try to keep them alive.  (Historically I've had really bad luck growing basil.  Keep your fingers crossed.)

Perfect Summer Day

County Fair Entries

County Fair Entries, originally uploaded by doo010101.

I think this is it... my county fair entries for next month. I'm entering the red skull mittens for my mother and I still have to decide between the two scrapbook pages. (you can only enter one.)

I hope this is going to be a fun process. In my current frame of mind, I'm really extending beyond my comfort zone to participate in something like this... I hope it doesn't bite me in the butt.

Wish me luck. Judging isn't until end of July. I'll keep you posted.
